Review
A Classic Disney adventure (based on the Jules Verne novel) spares no expense to re-create Captain Nemo's atomic sub, the underwater kingdoms, the giant squid and other Verne-esque wonders. Kirk Douglas, Perter Lorre and Paul Lukas are survivors of a whaling ship ramming who find themselves on the Nautilus, under the command of the brilliant but demented Nemo (James Mason), who wages war against those who wage war. The effects are remakable grand for their day, especially the squid attack as men armed with harpoons try to dislodge the multitentacled giant off the sub's hull. This remains the film that best captures the flavor of Verne and his inventions.
